William D. Orand, Chief Executive Officer
William D. "Bill" Orand is Chief Executive Officer and one of the founders of Vanguard Healthcare Services, LLC. Prior to establishing Vanguard in 1998, he teamed up with Jere Ervin in 1991 to form International Health Care Associates, Inc. (IHCA), a firm specializing in health care acquisitions on behalf of foreign investors. From 1990 to 1998, IHCA bought 32 skilled-nursing facilities totaling $125 million financed with mortgage debt and raising approximately $50 million of private investor capital.
From 1982 to 1991, Orand served in various acquisition roles with Jacques-Miller, Inc., a national syndication and investment firm, ultimately becoming a member of the Executive Committee with responsibility for all real estate acquisitions and dispositions. He was personally involved in over $200 million in real estate transactions during his tenure at Jacques-Miller. Orand also served as General Partner for a publicly-held limited partnership that owned $50 million of skilled-nursing facilities and head trauma rehabilitation centers. Since 1986, he has personally been involved with the acquisition and/or financing of 51 skilled-nursing facilities.
Upon graduation from Vanderbilt University in 1977 with a degree in Business Administration and Economics, he entered the U.S. Navy Officer Candidate School and served as an officer in the fleet until 1981.
John T. Fick, Chief Financial Officer
John has served as the Chief Financial Officer at Vanguard Healthcare since 2014. As CFO, John is responsible for all financial aspects impacting the Company including accounting, cash management, revenue cycle and financial operations. Prior to Vanguard, John served as CFO at Haven Behavioral Health, a behavioral health company focusing on geriatric psychiatric care. Prior to Haven John was the SVP Corporate Controller and Treasurer for Essent Healthcare, an acute care hospital company and Vice President, Financial Operations at PhyCor, Inc., a company that operated multi-specialty physician clinics. Prior to moving to Nashville in 1996, John was a senior manager with Ernst & Young in New Orleans. John is a graduate of the University of New Orleans.
Amy Ulery-Brown, Regional Director of Operations
Amy U. Brown, MSN, RN, CNHA, FACHCA is Vanguard Healthcare Services' Regional Director of Operations where she is responsible for all aspects of the clinical and operational functions for the multi-facility company in her region. She has an extensive background in clinical and financial operations, leadership development and long term care regulations.
Prior to joining Vanguard, she served as a Senior Administrator where she was responsible for the oversite of multiple skilled nursing/long term care facilities. In this role, she consistently achieved excellent ratings in quality of care by utilizing continuous quality improvement initiatives to maintain survey and financial compliance.
Mrs. Brown is an active member of the Mississippi Healthcare Association where she serves on the Board of the Nursing Long Term Care Coalition. She is also a member of the American College of Healthcare Administrators.
Mrs. Brown graduated from the University of Mississippi with a Bachelor degree in Nursing. She also obtained a Master’s Degree in Nursing with an emphasis on Healthcare Administration/Education from the University of Mississippi. Brown is a licensed and certified nursing home administrator with over 18 years of experience. Recently, she advanced to Fellowship status with the American College of Healthcare Administrators. Additionally, she is the recipient of the 2018 Eli Pick Facility Leadership Award in which fewer than 11% of skilled nursing home facilities nationwide qualify.
Donna Ables, Regional Director of Operations
Ms. Donna Ables brings over 20 years of geriatric and clinical experience to the long-term care industry. A Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree and a Nursing Home Administrator license afford Ms. Ables an in-depth perspective into the nursing home industry.
Donna’s clinical career began as an oncology nurse where she became familiar with patient care and nursing practices. Her long term care experience began as a RN Supervisor and Medicare Utilization Nurse. Through her continuous experience, her role evolved into a Divisional Clinical Reimbursement Specialist. She is currently the Regional Director of Operations for Vanguard Healthcare Services, a multi-facility company.
As her journey continued in the long term care arena she became a licensed nursing home administrator in multiple states. This offers her the opportunity to gain proficiency for development and presentation of training material, interdisciplinary team and program development, and Life Safety management.
Today, Donna brings her expertise to oversee all clinical and operational efforts to the skilled nursing home management teams in her region to provide positive operational and clinical outcomes. These areas include: planning, organization, directing and supervising efforts according to company policies, standards of practice, and state and federal guidelines.
